From August 2010 onwards exteriors for the film, many of them
cityscape time-lapses, were shot in several cities in Japan
– Niigata, Osaka and Tokyo.
Stills from time-lapsed backgrounds from the Musashi-Kosugi
area of Tokyo.
In August 2011 similar material was shot in Cairo, Egypt
and also in Kunming in China and Novosibirsk in Russia in
From June 2010 the interior scenes were shot on an ongoing
basis in studios in Dublin with key cast. The illustrations
in the previous sections of this treatment are taken from
the rushes from some of these early sessions.
As of June 2012 principle photography was completed.
The film was shot in High Definition on 3 cameras –
the PANASONIC P2 DVCPRO HD, the CANON EOS 5D and the JVC EVERIO

French actor Dominique Monot as the Metal Dragon ( derived
from the Jade Emperor and other authority figures ).
Japanese musician Junshi Murakami as the Boy ( Monkey ).
Egyptian artist Mona Gamil as Mei ( an amalgamation of Tripitaka
and other deities and demons ).
Irish actress Fionnuala Collins as Ms. Young, the Chief of
Irish artist Helen McNulty as Ms. Whyte.
Israeli artist Keshet Zur.
Nigerian actor Ademola Oladeji as Gubo.
Irish musician Gary Fitzpatrick.
Irish artist Vicky Langan as the mysterious Yama ( derived
from Yama in the original buddhist pantheon )
Irish actor Ciaron Davies as Ymir ( a cousin of Yama )
Brazilian artist Fernanda Rubio as Ms.Hou
